What is Holistic Nutrition?
Holistic nutrition is a natural, whole-person approach to health and wellness. It goes beyond simply “what to eat” by addressing how food, lifestyle, environment, and emotions work together to create balance in the body. Rather than focusing on symptoms alone, holistic nutrition looks at the root causes of health concerns and aims to restore harmony using nutrient-rich foods, natural supplements, and positive lifestyle changes.
By understanding that every individual is unique, holistic nutrition creates personalized plans tailored to your body, preferences, and health goals.
The Principles of Holistic Nutrition
- The Body is an Integrated System: Every part of your body is connected, and wellness requires balance in physical, emotional, and mental health.
- Food as Medicine: Nutrient-dense, whole foods are the foundation for healing, vitality, and longevity.
- Biochemical Individuality: Each person has unique nutritional needs based on genetics, lifestyle, and environment.
- Prevention is Key: Addressing imbalances early can prevent illness and promote lifelong health.
- The Power of Digestion: A healthy digestive system is essential for proper nutrient absorption and overall well-being.
- Holistic Lifestyle: Nutrition works hand-in-hand with other factors like sleep, movement, stress management, and emotional wellness to support your health journey.
- Education and Empowerment: Holistic nutrition empowers individuals to take charge of their health through informed choices and sustainable habits.
Holistic nutrition isn’t just about eating better — it’s about thriving in every aspect of your life.If this resonates with you, let’s explore how it can help you achieve your health goals!
Who is a Nutritionist?
Although the title Nutritionist is not regulated in Canada, a Certified Nutritionist obtains a certificate from an accredited school, has completed hands-on training through a comprehensive internship, and has passed all the examinations. They are also required to remain in good standing with their regulatory body, with the completion of yearly continuing education and competency programs.
Does insurance cover your services?
Many insurance companies, including Manulife, iA Financial Group, GreenShield Canada, Equitable Life Insurance, ClaimSecure Inc., and Blue Cross Alberta, cover nutritional counseling. To find out if your plan covers my services, look for the designations NNCP (Natural Nutrition Clinical Practitioner) or CNP (Certified Nutrition Practitioner). While direct billing is not available, I can provide an invoice for reimbursement.

What is a Functional Lab Test?
Functional labs are especially valuable when traditional tests don’t provide enough information. They give us the data needed to develop targeted treatment plans for everything from hormonal imbalances and digestive disorders to chronic fatigue and stress management. Book a free 15-minute discovery call to discuss your health concerns and how lab diagnostics can provide the answers you’re looking for.
What is the Difference Between Conventional and Functional Lab Testing?
- Conventional labs focus on diagnosing diseases and measuring basic health markers like blood sugar or cholesterol.
- Functional labs dive deeper, looking at hormone levels, gut health, toxic exposure, and more, offering a personalized approach to wellness.
I follow a vegan/vegetarian diet. Will your services be suitable for me?
Absolutely! While I’m not vegan myself, I’ve spent years learning how to support vegans and vegetarians with gut and hormonal health issues. I have the knowledge and tools to create personalized vegan and vegetarian meal plans that meet your nutritional needs, while also addressing any specific health concerns. I can also recommend the right supplements to support your body’s unique requirements, ensuring you receive the comprehensive care you deserve.
Despite eating salads and protein for both lunch and dinner, and exercising daily, I'm not losing any body fat. What could be the reason?
Losing body fat is not just about calorie restriction and exercise. While eating salads and protein is a healthy approach, it’s not a sustainable long-term solution for fat loss. A holistic approach is key. I help my clients improve their metabolism through hormone balance, detoxification, and other supportive methods. This approach leads to lasting results and helps avoid the cycle of weight fluctuations.
Are the personal care products I use harmful to my hormone levels?
Yes, many everyday personal care products contain substances that can disrupt hormone balance. Check the labels of your cosmetics, skin treatments, and hair products. Look out for harmful ingredients like phthalates, parabens, and heavy metals. I teach my clients to identify these ingredients and offer a list of clean, hormone-friendly alternatives. I also provide tools to help you find clean products on your own.
I'm in my mid-thirties, and my usual weight loss methods no longer work. Do I have any options besides buying a new wardrobe?
This is a common concern, especially as we enter perimenopause and menopause, which can bring hormonal shifts and increase belly fat. To address this, I take a holistic approach that includes managing stress, improving sleep, supporting liver function, and balancing hormones. I also offer a comprehensive functional hormone test to pinpoint imbalances and develop a personalized plan for improvement.
